Description
West Mills is a late 19th-century industrial building constructed of red brick with Portland ashlar dressings. It features a pitched slate roof with coped gables and stands three storeys high. The building has four ranges of segment-headed industrial windows with glazing bars and keystones, with two ranges located on the west elevation. Additionally, there is one range of planked loading doors on the west elevation, accompanied by a planked sack-hoist that projects on wooden brackets. Internally, cast iron columns support the floors, and machinery is still in use. To the north, there are one-storey outhouses, with the first likely dating from the 18th century and the rest from the 19th century, all built of hammer-dressed stone with pitched slate roofs. The east elevations of the outhouses feature various windows, including two wood mullioned windows with iron bars and planked shutters with contemporary hinges, as well as one 19th-century fixed window with glazing bars.
