Description

Lightpill Mill is an early 19th-century industrial building located on Bath Road. The principal range is constructed of hammer-dressed rubble and features a corrugated iron roof. It stands four storeys tall and has ten ranges of segment-headed casements with glazing bars and brick voussoirs. There is a mid-19th century ashlar attic dormer that includes a clock and moulded gable coping supported by pilasters. At the south end, there is an ashlar chimney with a square plinth and bull-nosed sill, leading to a tapering octagonal chimney with cornicing.

To the west at the south end is another range, also mid-19th century, made of hammer-dressed rubble with a pitched slate roof and louvred skylights. This section has four storeys and a basement, featuring eleven ranges of mullioned windows and industrial windows with glazing bars on the third floor. The basement includes an arch with a keystone designed to accommodate the mill stream.

At the east end, there is a third range from the mid-19th century, again made of hammer-dressed rubble and topped with a pitched slate roof. This part is three storeys high and has nine ranges of paired arched windows. A tower with a hipped and sprocketed slate roof is located in the re-entrant angle between this range and the principal block.
