Description
Hart's Cottage is a cottage dating from the early 17th century, with changes made in the 18th century and early 19th century features and extensions. It has cob walls and a half-hipped thatch roof, with an eyebrow dormer and an extension at the rear that has lower eaves supported by posts. The layout includes a through passageway that separates the original two rooms, and there is a massive fireplace with a bread oven at the former east gable, which is now concealed by a 19th-century store.
The irregular south front has one storey and an attic, featuring one above three windows. To the west of the doorway is a 19th-century sash window, while the other windows are casements, including a small light that once illuminated the former staircase adjacent to the chimney breast. The two larger windows have hoods supported by decorative brackets. The boarded door is set beneath a gabled hood, also on decorative brackets. At the rear, there are two original small casement windows and a doorway with a massive chamfered frame. The interior remains largely original, with old partitions defining the passageway.
