Description

Mullens Mill House Restaurant is a watermill and attached house, largely dating from the early 18th century with an early 19th-century extension and details. The building has medieval origins. It is constructed of brick in English bond, with cambered heads to older window openings. The roof is tiled, with stone slates to the lower courses. The main north-south section of the mill is two storeys and an attic, standing on a stone base pierced by two water channels; the arch of one has a keystone inscribed ‘AC 1714’. A timber-framed building with boarded walls, originally above a cart shed with an open ground floor (now bricked in), extends to the north. A symmetrical south front of two storeys and three windows forms a cross wing at the south end. Casement windows are present throughout, with the house possessing two early 19th-century bays, one replacing a former central doorway. Plain doorways are set into the long eastern elevation. Inside, a water-wheel is located within the north channel.
