Description

Broadwater Cottage is a detached cottage dating from the early 17th century. It features walls made of flint and dressed stone, arranged in a banded pattern, and has a thatched roof with a central brick stack aligned with the front door. The cottage is 1½ storeys high and has five windows, which are two-light wooden casements with glazing bars, wooden sills, and chamfered lintels. There is a three-light casement window to the right of the front door. The cottage also has five eyebrow dormers with 20th-century two-light casements that include glazing bars. The central entrance has a plank door with weatherboarding, a wooden lintel above, and a 19th-century door frame. At the rear, there is an integral outshut covering the northern half, which has banded walls and a Bridgwater tile roof.

Inside, the layout follows a lobby-entrance plan with back-to-back fireplaces that feature wooden bressumers with straight chamfers. To the left of the cottage, there is an attached stable with a banded base and rubble-stone walls above, finished with brick quoins and a clay-tile roof.
