Description
Numbers 1 and 2 Corner Cottage is a pair of cottages dating from the 17th century or earlier. They feature rubble-stone at the base and chalk block walls, with sleeper buttresses and some render on the end walls. The thatched roof is half-hipped at the left end and has a lower ridge at the right end, terminating in a hip. There is a brick stack at the center of the ridge. The cottages are 1½ storeys high and have four windows with irregular spacing. The windows are 2- and 3-light 20th-century metal casements with glazing bars, wooden lintels, and concrete sills. There are three eyebrow dormers. The front door of No. 1 has a segmental brick arch above it and a plank door, while No. 2 has a 20th-century door with a glass light at the left end. Inside No. 2, there is an open fireplace with a heavy-chamfered wooden lintel that has stopped ends, and the jambs are made of chalk block and brick. The roof features jointed-cruck construction with two sets of through-purlins, and the ridge has been renewed.
