SY7083 SUTTON ROAD, Preston 873-1/9/483 (West side) 14/06/74 No.7 Preston Day Nursery (Formerly Listed as: SUTTON ROAD, Preston No.7 (Vicarage) and St Giles Cottage)

GV II

Detached house, formerly vicarage. Early C19. Smooth rendered, slate roof, brick stack. A large square block with low-pitched hipped roof and deep eaves; the internal layout may have been modified, but has a central hall, entered from the S, with principal staircase rising to the right. 2 storeys, 3 windows; 12-pane sashes, widely spaced, in plain reveals and on stone sills. The central panelled door is covered by a C20 glazed porch with tent hood. The return front (W) is similar, in 3 bays, with central pair of French doors, and the remains of a former glazed canopy, and the E side is in 4 bays. The back wall has been rebuilt, following separation from the former service wing. The large stack, with a reeded edge to the capping, is offset on the ridge towards the left. INTERIOR: part of the ground floor only was inspected. There are good 6-panel original doors, window shutters, and moulded cornices. The lateral stair with quarter-landings may be a replacement. To the rear, No.9, St Andrew's Cottage (qv), was formerly attached to the Vicarage as a service wing, and known as St Giles' Cottage.
