Description
The Old Vicarage is a detached house, originally built in the late 18th century and formerly used as a vicarage. It is constructed of coursed rubble on the front elevation, with rubble returns, and has a slate roof. The building comprises a symmetrical, gabled front range with a deep, gabled rear wing. Due to the realignment and raising of the road to the south, the house now sits below pavement level.
The main front of the house has two storeys and three windows, all sash windows with flush boxes. The first-floor windows have six panes, possibly originally twelve, set within haunched segmental brick arches. The ground floor features a tripartite sash window with a 4:12:4-pane arrangement, set under a wooden lintel, flanked by similar windows. A wide 19th-century door consisting of two vertical panels is centrally positioned, above a shallow elliptical fanlight with radial bars. The left gable has a small stack, while the right gable has a replacement window above a small single-light casement window.
The rear wing, also in two storeys, has a single-storey lean-to addition. It features replacement casement windows and a large aluminium ‘patio’ door. A rear brick stack is visible, along with a projecting bread-oven. The interior of the property has not been inspected.
