Description
No. 188 Preston Road is a small detached cottage dating from the 17th century. It was originally part of a row of three cottages, but the center unit has been demolished. The building is constructed of coursed rubble and features a thatched roof. It has one storey and an attic, with two windows that are all three-light replacement casements. One window is located in an eyebrow above two flanking the wide plank door, and there is a small light on the extreme right. The left end of the cottage is half-hipped and includes two- and three-light casements, along with a brick stack that has an added raking buttress near the front. The right return is plain and was formerly home to a stack. The front has a very heavy added raking buttress, while the rear features a continuous lean-to glazed conservatory. Inside, the room to the right contains a wide bressumer fireplace and some original joists, while the staircase is from the 20th century.
