Description
The Post Office is a detached house located on Preston Road in Weymouth, dated 1747. It features a rubble construction with a thatched roof and a two-room central-entry plan. The main front, which faces west, is two storeys high and has two windows. It includes two- and three-light small-pane wood casements and a central part-glazed door that is sheltered by a small gable hood. Above the door, there is a panel inscribed with "I/RM/1747/May 29". The gable facing the road is plain, with a door to the right and small brick gable stacks. At the rear, there are two-light casements on each level, located far left. Attached to the rear and parallel to the road is a single-storey gabled range, which was a former workshop. This range has a corrugated roof and rubble walls, featuring a small single light and a larger six-pane fixed light to the left of a wide pair of doors that are topped with a deep boarded lintel. The interior has not been inspected. This building is part of a compact group of early houses in this area of the village.
