Description
A row of four houses on Dorchester Road, built in the early to mid-19th century. The construction is of coursed and squared Portland stone with Broadmayne brick dressings, and the roofs are slate. Number 715 was originally likely built as a semi-detached pair with number 713, but a single-bay section was later inserted and connected to number 711, slightly set back. The windows are generally sash windows with splayed flush lintels and stone sills, with brick alternating jambs. Number 707 has 16-pane sashes at each level, and an arched doorway with a flush stone surround over a six-panel door and fanlight. Number 709 has 20th-century casement windows and a 20th-century door. Number 711 has 12-pane sashes and a 20th-century door within an arched head, but without a fanlight; the right bay is the inserted section. The end house, formerly a pair, features wide-spaced four-pane sashes and a 20th-century lean-to porch and door. There are five ridge stacks. The interior was not inspected. Although probably built in stages, the development appears to have been sporadic rather than built as a formal terrace. Together with numbers 701-705, this group represents the longest surviving range of this date in Broadwey, with the frontages largely intact, except for the 20th-century window replacements in number 709. The row is linked as one long terrace with numbers 701-705.
