Description

Manor Barn is a former barn that has been partly converted into a dwelling, dating from the 18th century. It is constructed of rubble, some of which is painted, and features a thatched roof. The building is detached and has hipped ends with hipped porches on the north and south sides. The western portion has been transformed into a house with inserted floors and partitions, while three bays of the original structure remain on the eastern side. Between these two sections, there is an inserted diaphragm wall that rises above the thatch and has a rendered coping.

On the north side, there is a wide pair of plank doors with barred openings at the top, set under a wooden lintel. The former porch features a full-height timber screen with narrow lights and spandrel panels, along with two 20th-century casements and a door to the right. This side also includes a rendered raking buttress and an additional buttress at the corner. The west end has two 20th-century windows at each level, while the south side contains two lights and a door, as well as plank doors and a plank upper panel for the porch. The roof on the right sweeps down, and there is an added lean-to.

Inside, the barn consists of three bays with a collar roof supported by two purlins, and it has an earth floor. A vent is present in the gable end. A full-height concrete block wall separates this section from the converted house, which does not retain any characteristics of the barn. The building remained a barn at the time of its previous listing, and the conversion has involved minimal external changes, preserving the overall form of the structure.
