Description

These are a pair of semi-detached houses located on Dorchester Road, Weymouth, dating from approximately 1830 to 1840. The houses are rendered and have slate hipped roofs. They are two storeys high, originally designed as a symmetrical pair, but now possessing differing details.

Number 42 features 12-pane sashes, including a hipped canted bay with pilaster mullions and a dentil cornice. A six-panel door is situated beneath a radial fanlight, accessed by a single step. A small dormer is present on the return, along with a 12-pane sash window and a deep stair sash. Number 44 exhibits a small dormer above plain sashes. A 20th-century door is set within an ogee tent porch supported by brackets, which has a cast iron column on the right and a solid cheek on the left. The left return of number 44 displays a deep stair light.

Architectural details include a mid-sill band, moulded cornice, a blocking course and a coped parapet, and a central stack. The interior has not been inspected. The houses were likely constructed around the same time as the adjacent St Augustine's Church and numbers 34 and 40, forming a group.
