Description
Two houses dating from around 1830, located on Lawrence Street in York. The buildings are constructed of brick with painted stone or stucco dressings, and have slate roofs. They are designed as a mirrored pair, each house featuring two bays. Each house originally had doorways in their outer bays; the ground floor windows are bowed sash windows with panelled friezes. Number 87 has a tall, narrow sash window without glazing bars, set beneath a stucco lintel to the right of its doorway. The first-floor windows have rusticated stucco lintels. Number 85 has 20th-century casement windows with glazing bars on the first floor; Number 87 retains original sash windows. The door surrounds have reeded engaged columns, panelled friezes, and lead cornices. The doors themselves feature six raised and fielded panels, panelled reveals, and plain rectangular overlights. Chimneys are located between the houses and are shared on both the left and right sides. The interiors were not inspected during the heritage assessment.
