Description

The Waggon and Horses Public House, number 19, is a house, now partly a public house, dating to 1773, with additions from the early 19th century and alterations in the late 19th century. The building is constructed of brick in Flemish bond, with some areas rendered and painted. It has a concrete tile roof. The original section of the building, on the left, is two storeys and has an attic, with three bays. The two left-hand bays are of exposed brick and feature sashed windows with segmental arches, and a brick storey band. The central bay has a doorcase with fluted pilasters, console brackets, a dentilled open pediment, and a fanlight above a door with six raised and fielded panels. The right-hand bay is covered with painted render, and has a sashed window on the first floor and a horizontal sash window with glazing bars to the attic dormer. On the ground floor, a public house frontage extends to the right, incorporating an addition. This frontage has a timber fascia and cornice with end pilasters, pilasters flanking the doorway, and etched glass above timber panelling. The first floor of the addition has a sashed window. A further addition to the far right has a carriage entrance on the ground floor, and a first-floor wall of exposed brick supported by a timber lintel, with a pair of sashed windows. There are two chimneys on the ridge of the original house, and a third on the gable of the first addition. The interior was not inspected.
