Description
Paddock Cottage, including the boundary wall to the road, is a detached cottage dating from the late 16th to early 17th century. It features brick walls and a thatched roof, with brick end stacks. The building has an L-shaped plan and is one storey with an attic. The gable end of the wing that is perpendicular to the road has a brick buttress. There is a plat band at first floor level that steps up over a ground floor window, which has been altered to a French door. Above this, there is a casement window with glazing bars under a brick hoodmould, and some decorative burnt header detailing. The wing that runs parallel to the road has a 20th-century French door and one casement window with glazing bars on the ground floor, as well as one dormer with a similar casement. Inside, the ground floor room in the projecting wing features a large open fireplace with a cob-backed design, a timber lintel, and a bread oven. There are also deep chamfered ceiling beams. Another ground floor room has a large open fireplace with traces of a bread oven. The brick boundary wall to the road has rounded capping, contributing to the overall attractiveness of the house.
