Description
This building is an outbuilding located approximately 10 meters north of Mill Farmhouse in Sturminster Newton. It is possibly a detached kitchen and dates from the 17th century or earlier, with a rebuild of the north wall in the 18th century. The structure is made of coursed squared rubble and features a thatched roof, which is half-hipped at one end and gabled with a stone stack at the other. The entrance is located in the southern gable, opposite the entrance to Mill Farmhouse.
Inside, there is a single central jointed cruck truss. The north wall includes a fireplace with a timber bressummer, next to which is an alcove that is lit by a small square window. A straight joint indicates that the fireplace is a later addition. It is also noted that there are smoke blackened timbers in the roof.
