Description

This outbuilding, located about 3 metres northwest of Great Dunstone Farmhouse, is a late 16th or 17th century structure that was formerly a small domestic building. It is constructed of granite rubble and has a roof covered with corrugated iron. The building features a two-room plan, is one storey high with a loft, and has plank doors fitted with old wrought-iron strap-hinges.

At the rear right-hand corner, there is a rounded projection, likely a chimneystack. A stone staircase is positioned against the left-hand gable wall. Inside, the building has two chamfered upper-floor beams with step-stops at the right-hand end. The right-hand gable wall contains a blocked fireplace with a curved wooden lintel, which may be chamfered. Adjacent to this fireplace, in the rear wall, is an oven with a round-headed, stone-framed opening that is slightly recessed, and there is a flue above it. The left-hand room previously housed a staircase, according to information from the owner. The roof timbers date from the 19th century. This outbuilding likely originated as a detached kitchen, making it a rare survival.
