Description

Cockingford Cottage is a house that likely dates from the late 17th century or 18th century, with additions at both ends. It is constructed from granite rubble and has a slated roof. There is a granite ashlar chimney stack on the ridge, positioned off-centre to the left. The cottage is two storeys high and two windows wide, with all windows featuring 20th-century wood casements. The central doorway of the original building is sheltered by an open-fronted granite rubble porch with a slated pent roof. There are blocked doorways at either end of the ground floor, with the right-hand doorway having a window cut into the blocking. To the right, there is a windowless addition, while to the left, there is a single-storey addition that was formerly a smithy, made of granite rubble and covered with a corrugated iron roof. The house was listed for its group value with Cockingford farmhouse, which is located in Widecombe parish.
