Description
St Michael's, St Gabriel, and St Anthony's are a row of three cottages, which may have originally been a single farmhouse, dating from the 16th or 17th century. They feature granite rubble construction and have an asbestos-slated roof. The cottages have three large, old chimneystacks: one on the left gable, and two on the center ridge and towards the right-hand end. The right-hand stack is made of exposed granite with a tapered top, while the others are rendered. The buildings have a single-depth plan and are two storeys tall, with a total of six windows across the front. Most windows are 19th-century casements with glazing bars, except for the 20th-century metal casements found at St Gabriel and in the ground storey of St Anthony's. Each cottage has old plank doors with inserted windows. St Michael's features a gabled stone porch, while the other two cottages have adjoining doors with a single lean-to hood above. Inside, St Michael's has chamfered beams and a winding staircase beside the stack, which includes a slit window in the rear wall. The feet of the roof trusses are boxed, and it is reported that there is no access to any of the roof spaces.
