Description

This former house, now an outbuilding, dates back to the 17th century. It is constructed from granite rubble, featuring dressed granite quoins and openings. The roof is made of corrugated asbestos, with a brick chimney located over the right-hand gable end. Originally, the building had a two-room through passage plan, with a stair projection behind the right-hand room, which served as the parlour.

In the 18th century, it was likely extended with an unheated one-room plan wing at right angles behind the left-hand room, which was used as a hall or kitchen. During the 20th century, the first floor and partitions were removed, and the building was re-roofed, transforming it into a single-storey structure with part of the front wall demolished. It now consists of one T-shaped room with large fireplaces at each gable end. The fireplace in the left-hand room features a chamfered hardwood lintel and has a fireplace above for the former first-floor chamber. The right-hand room's fireplace is framed by chamfered granite jambs and lintels, with a gable-end window bay next to it. A bread oven was later added to the left side of the parlour fireplace, necessitating the repositioning of the jambstone to create space for it.

The building was originally designed with a two-window front and a doorway situated between the windows. The chamfered doorway and part of the three-light window on the right side remain intact, while the left-hand doorway jamb has been shifted to the right. This structure is a rare 17th-century building that retains significant architectural features in this part of Cornwall.
