Description
BONDLEIGH SS 60 SW 5/7 Outbuilding immediately to east of East Heywood Farmnouse GV II Outbuilding, originally probably detached kitchen to East Heywood Farmhouse (q.v). C17 cob walls. Gable ended corrugated iron roof. Plan: Rectangular 1-room plan with axial fireplace creating very small separate area at left-hand end behind it. Stairs in projection at front of left-hand side. Possibly extended at right-hand end. Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical front with doorway to left of centre which has C17 square-headed chamfered wooden doorframe. C19 plank door. The right-hand side of the front wall is recessed. To the right of the doorway a pentice roof is supported at the front on rough granite posts probably to shelter a pump or well. Interior: Large fireplace with chamfered wooden lintel which may be re-used, one oven survives at the rear and there is evidence of others. Two cross beams, both chamfered, one with hollow step stops, one with straight cut stops. This is a rare survival of a C17 detached kitchen wnich forms an important group with the adjoining farmhouse from whose back door it is only several feet away.
