Description
The outbuilding located immediately to the south-south-east of Yeo Farmhouse is likely to have originally served as a detached kitchen and dates from the late 17th century. It features rubble and cob walls topped with a gable-ended corrugated iron roof. The building has a rectangular plan with two rooms; the larger room on the left contains a wide gable end fireplace, which has an adjoining circular chamber that was probably used for curing meat.
The exterior is one storey with a loft and presents an asymmetrical front. There is a door towards the right end and two windows to the left, which are fitted with square section wooden mullions. Above these windows is a lean-to roof, and wooden steps at the left end lead up to the loft. A later addition, possibly a stable, projects from the left end and features two doorways.
Inside, the building has insubstantial rough chamfered beams. The fireplace includes a wooden lintel, beneath which a wall has been built up. The curing chamber is notable for its corbelled cob roof, which has a flue that connects to the fireplace flue.
