Description
East Elworth Farmhouse is a detached former farmhouse dating from the mid 17th century. It features rubble-stone walls with dressed stone quoins and a slate roof that has stone gable copings and ovolo-moulded kneelers. The gable ends have been fitted with rebuilt stone stacks from the 20th century. The south elevation has two storeys with dormers, including two windows with three-light stone mullions that are hollow-chamfered, and one four-light window on the right. Each window has separate labels and wooden casements. Above the front door, there is a 20th-century bull's eye window. The front has three 20th-century dormers with two-light wooden casements, leaded glass, and hipped slate roofs. The front doorway is located to the right of the centre and features a depressed-arch head with straight chamfered jambs, leading to a 20th-century plank door.
The rear (north range) is also from the 17th century and may have originally been part of a unit system. It has two storeys and two windows with two-light stone mullions, although the west side has undergone 20th-century refenestration. Originally, this range was a two-unit structure that included an open fireplace and a bread oven at the north end. A 20th-century continuous outshut has been added in the angle, incorporating re-set 17th-century jambs and the head of a doorway, which also has a plank door.
