Description
Nos 5 and 7 on West Street are attached cottages dating from the 18th century, originally part of a range of five cottages east of the Forge. The cottages have rubble-stone walls with stone quoins and thatch roofs, featuring a gable end on the right side. There are brick stacks on the right party of No 5, at the ridge of No 6, and at the right-hand gable, all from the 18th century. The buildings are two storeys high and have six windows, which are three-light wooden casements with wooden cills and lintels. There is a 20th-century two-light wooden casement with glazing bars at the centre. Two doorways are blocked, located at the centre and right of centre. The front door of No 5, positioned left of centre, is a plank door with a weatherboard and glass light, set under a stone arch with voussoirs, dating from the 19th century. The front door of No 7, located at centre right, is also a plank door with a glass light, from the 19th century.
