Description

The Cobbles is a late 17th-century house with additions from the late 18th and early 19th centuries, situated on Blandford Road, Shillingstone. The house comprises two ranges; the older range is to the left. The construction materials vary, featuring brick, brick and flint, and render, topped with a thatched roof to the earlier range and a slate roof to the later. Brick stacks are positioned at the ends and intersections of the ranges. The house has two storeys and displays four irregular window openings. The older part of the house has casement windows with horizontal glazing bars, set beneath segmental heads on the ground floor. The later part features sash windows with vertical glazing bars and a central porch with a panelled door. Internal features documented by the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments include a ceiling of intersecting chamfered beams and chamfered wall-plates, with one beam ending on a chamfered post featuring splayed stops.
