Description

Wallace Farmhouse is a house that dates from the late 17th century, with 18th and 19th century additions. It is constructed of rubblestone with brick dressings and has old tile roofs. The building is two storeys high, plus dormers, and features a three-bay late 17th century range with an 18th century wing to the left and a wing from around 1840 to the right, forming a T-shaped plan. The south front has four bays, with three pairs of French doors and a sash window in the right bay. To the left of the second bay from the left, there is an arched window that was formerly a door, and the first-floor windows are sashes with glazing bars. The right bays have half-hipped gables. At the northeast angle at the rear, there is a porch with a lean-to roof. The entrance features a six-panel door in a circa 1700 oak door frame with mouldings and stops. On the east side of the late 17th century range, there is a three-light mullioned and transomed leaded casement window at ground floor level. The north gable has a Diocletian attic window, while other windows are either sashes or casements. There are further additions in the northeast angle. The main stack is located between the south bays of the late 17th century range. Inside, the late 17th century range includes inglenooks between the south bays, with stone jambs and timber lintels; the southern one is cambered and chamfered. The building also features chamfered and stopped spine beams.
