Description

Forge Cottage is a cottage dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, constructed of rubblestone with an old tile roof, and features some timber framing. To the right, there is a weatherboarded range built on a rubble plinth, which was formerly used as a smithy. The old tile roof is lower than that of the main house. The cottage has one and a half storeys and consists of three bays. There is a four-panel door located between the right-hand bays, which forms a lobby-entry type plan, and a board door at the far right. The windows are leaded casements, with two-light windows in the left bays under timber lintels and a three-light window in the right bay, which has cement rusticated quoins and an arch. The cottage features three two-light gabled dormers. The left gable is timber framed with brick infill, while the right gable is weatherboarded. There is a stack situated between the right-hand bays, and the rear includes outshots and some exposed timber framing. A single-storey range on the right also has a stack, and the rear wall is weatherboarded.
