Description

Lower Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1678, with alterations and additions from the 19th century. It is constructed of rubblestone, with the upper floor of the south range made of brick, and the 19th-century ranges also in brick. The building features old tile roofs and has a letter-L plan, consisting of a two-bay south range and a three-bay west range. Attached to the east bay of the south range is a two-bay 19th-century block that runs north, creating an open courtyard plan. There are single-storey additions to the northwest, and the farmhouse is two storeys high.

The entrance is located in a lean-to porch at the southeast corner of the courtyard. The south elevation has three-light casements in the left bay and the ground floor centre bay, while the other three windows are sashes with glazing bars. A band course runs along this elevation, and there is a stack between the left bays. The west elevation features a doorway in the left bay, with blocked windows in the right bay and a large stack between the bays. The east elevation of the 17th-century wing has two three-light casements and a blocked centre door. A date plaque made of cut bricks on the north gable is inscribed 'IB 1678'. The roof of the south range is hipped, and the north gables of both the 17th-century and 19th-century ranges have stacks.
