Description
These are a group of 18th-century barns and a cowshed, converted into three dwellings. They form an L-shaped layout, with a barn facing the road and extending back to include another barn and a cowshed. The buildings are timber-framed with weatherboard cladding on rubble plinths, and feature brick dressings. They have plain clay tile roofs. The barn fronting the road has five bays, with a central cart entry now used as a vehicular accessway. The road elevation includes a slit window on the left and three roof lights. The barn has a half-hipped roof and an open carriageway to the roof. The rear elevation, overlooking a courtyard, has French doors and casement windows. The east range is a four-bay barn, while the courtyard (north) elevation incorporates two lean-to porches, two garage doors, and casement windows on the ground floor, alongside six rooflights. The south side features French doors and casements to the barn, and a glazed central porch and casements to the cowshed (Upton Barn). The upper floor of this range includes two three-light gabled dormers and three roof lights. Internally, the barns have curved principal trusses and double-purlin roofs.
