YETMINSTER ST 5910 HIGH STREET (North side) 11/138 Boyle's Old School 11.7.51 GV II

Former school, now part used as photographic studio. Founded by Robert Boyle in 1691 and built 1697. Rubble stone walls, tiled roof with coped gables, one brick and one plastered end stack. L-shaped plan with rear wing. Main range 2 storeys, rear wing single-storey. On street front - blocked doorway with 4-centred arch. Stone panel above this with moulded surround. Ground floor has 2 tall stone mullioned and transome windows under hoodmoulds, with casements with centre horizontal bar. First floor has 3 stone mullioned windows under hoodmoulds with similar casements. Entrance in right end wall, in C20 flat roofed porch. Rear wing has slate roof and one ashlar stack. 2 mullioned and transomed windows with casements with centre horizontal bar. Note. The left-hand section of the ground floor of the front range, and all the first floor, are now occupied as part of School House (q.v.) (RCHM Monument 12 Dorset. Vol. I.)
