Description

Rock House is a detached house built around 1720, with alterations made in the early 19th century. It features rubble stone walls with raised ashlar quoins and a tiled roof with coped gables and brick end stacks. The house is two storeys with attics and has an L-shaped plan, including a later 19th-century rear infill block.

The east elevation facing Queen Street has a six-panel raised panel door set in an open porch with a concave pyramidal roof supported by slender columns. On the ground floor, there are two stone mullioned windows with flat mullions; the left window has casements with glazing bars, while the right window has sashes with glazing bars. The first floor also has two similar windows, and there is a small casement in the attic gable at the right end.

The elevation facing High Street features a two-storeyed semi-circular bow window at the left end, which has stone mullions and sashes with vertical glazing bars, a moulded cornice, and a flat roof. To the right of this bow window, there is a two-light stone mullioned window with sashes with vertical glazing bars on each floor.

At the rear of the house, there is a pump dated 1811. Inside, the ground floor room in the southeast corner has a large fireplace with an 18th-century surround, while the northeast corner room features a plaster cornice with acanthus detail. There are several raised panel doors, including one at the rear of the kitchen set in a chamfered stone surround. Additionally, there is a stone boundary wall along High Street.
