Description
Fairings is a house located at the right end of a terrace in Queen Street, Yetminster. It dates from the late 16th century to early 17th century and has been altered, enlarged, and converted into two cottages in the 18th century, but it has now been restored as a single house. The building features rubble stone walls and a thatched roof with a flush coped gable at the left end of the front wall, which terminates the rear wing and is topped with a pineapple finial. There is one brick chimney stack at the right end and another near the center. The house has an L-shaped plan with an 18th-century rear wing at the left end and is two storeys tall.
At the left end, under the gable, there is a blocked doorway and one sash window with glazing bars on each floor. In the main right range, there is a ledged door. The ground floor includes one three-light and one five-light stone mullioned window with hoodmoulds, as well as casements with a horizontal center bar. The first floor has three similar three-light windows. Inside, the main range features a large open fireplace with a timber lintel in the center ground floor room, along with some exposed chamfered ceiling beams. There is a doorway into the kitchen with a depressed four-centred arch. One first-floor room has a fireplace with a four-centred stone arch. Additionally, there is an 18th-century plank and muntin partition on the first floor. An attached outbuilding range at the end of the rear wing, which has a slate roof, is now part of the house.
