Description

The Old Court House, located on the north side of High Street in Yetminster, is a detached house dating from the mid to late 17th century, with an extension from the late 17th or 18th century at the right end. The building features rubble stone walls, some remnants of old plaster, and ashlar quoins and dressings. It has a tiled roof with coped gables and two brick stacks on the ridge, one of which is located at the front of the gabled projection. The house has an L-shaped plan with a projecting wing at the left end, which includes a shaped finial.

The structure is two storeys high, with a porch situated in the angle of two copings, topped by a lean-to roof. The original ledged door is set in a moulded frame within a four-centred arched opening. On the left gable wall, there is a single-light window with a moulded surround and hoodmould at mezzanine level. The right side wall of the wing features a circular window and a four-light stone mullioned window with a hoodmould on the ground floor, along with a similar three-light window on the first floor. In the main range parallel to the road, the ground floor has a four-light window and a single-light window, while the first floor has a two-light window and a three-light window. All windows are fitted with casements that include a centre horizontal bar.

There are various 20th-century additions at the rear. Inside, the front ground floor room in the wing showcases 18th-century moulded panelling, and there are plank and muntin partitions on both the ground and first floors. The ceilings feature some chamfered and some moulded beams. The front boundary wall is constructed of rubble stone with flat coping, while the boundary wall to the left of the house is also made of rubble stone with vertically laid rubble coping.
