Description
Bartholomew School is a school building constructed in 1877. It features squared and coursed limestone rubble, with ashlar quoins and dressings, and has a gabled 20th-century tile roof along with moulded stone ashlar stacks. The school is designed in an H-plan layout and includes a former school master's house on the right. It is built in the Jacobean style and has a single storey with a four-window range.
Each of the two gabled porches adjoining the wings has small arched lights positioned above segmental-arched doorways. The central range contains 2-light ovolo-moulded stone-mullioned windows and a panelled frieze. The gable ends of the side wings feature similar 4-light transomed windows and urn finials on the stone coping, with lateral stacks on the front wall and ridge stacks. There are also mullioned windows on the left side and rear of the building. The two-storey school master's house, designed in a similar style, includes a bow window at the front. Originally, the school rooms were segregated by gender, with the left porch inscribed "Boys" and the right porch inscribed "Girls." The interior was not inspected.
