Description
Stone Acre and The Laurels are two cottages located on Acre End Street in Eynsham. No. 25, known as Stone Acre, dates from the late 17th century and has had its eaves raised in the 20th century. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble and features a gabled roof covered with artificial stone slates, along with a brick stack at the rear. The cottage is one storey with an attic and has a two-window range. It has timber lintels above a 20th-century plank door and flanking 20th-century casement windows, as well as 20th-century half-dormer casements.
No. 27, known as The Laurels, dates from the late 17th to early 18th century and is also made of limestone rubble with a gabled stone slate roof. This cottage has a one-unit plan and is similarly one storey with an attic, featuring a one-window range. It has timber lintels above a 20th-century plank door and a 19th-century two-light casement window, along with a 19th-century two-light dormer casement. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest. These cottages are included for their group value.
