Description

The Swan Inn is an inn dating from the mid-18th century, with alterations made in the late 19th century. It is constructed from coursed and squared limestone rubble, featuring 20th-century ribbon pointing, and has a gabled stone slate roof with end stacks that were rebuilt in the 20th century. The building has a central-staircase plan and stands two storeys tall with an attic, displaying a symmetrical five-window range that was altered in the late 19th century.

The entrance features a doorway with a bracketed hood, and there is a window to the right that was added in the late 19th century. The left side has flat stone arches over six-pane sash windows, while the first floor has timber lintels over five-pane sash windows. There are also two late 19th-century roof dormers. To the right is a similar two-storey extension with a four-window range. The rear of the building has two lateral stacks and keyed flat arches over sash windows on the first floor and to the rear, along with a late 19th-century doorway and window on the ground floor.

At the rear left, there is a two-storey range built from similar materials. Inside, the room to the left features a roughly-chamfered beam and a flat brick arch with a keystone over an open fireplace, which has flanking smoking chambers. The dog-leg staircase with winders has square newels, handrails, and stick balusters. The roof is a three-bay common-rafter type.
