Description
Bradley House is a wide frontage house, formerly two separate properties, located at the corner with Wesley Street in Weymouth. It dates from around 1840 to 1850 and features Flemish bond brickwork with a hipped slate roof. The building has two storeys, an attic, and part of a basement.
The front facing Commercial Road has four windows, all of which are glazing-bar sashes set in splayed brick heads with stone sills. There are two flat-roofed dormers with sash windows. The outer bays on the first floor have notable oriel windows with eight, twelve, and eight panes, adorned with a dentil frieze and moulded cornices, flanking twelve-pane sash windows. On the ground floor, there are three twelve-pane sash windows along with an arched doorway featuring stone imposts and a painted-over fanlight in the second bay. A 20th-century door has been inserted in a square opening between the third and fourth bays. Beneath the first bay, part of a segmental arch is visible, likely leading to a cellar.
The building has a slight stone plinth, mostly covered by the pavement, a mid-level plat band, and a stone ovolo-mould cornice that wraps around the oriels. There is also a blocking course and a coped parapet. The return of the building continues as Nos 15 and 16 Wesley Street, featuring a flat-roofed dormer above a twelve-pane sash window on each level, with the ground floor window lacking bars in the lower sash. A 20th-century door is set in an arched opening that matches the detailing on the Commercial Road side. All other architectural details continue from the main front. The interior has not been inspected.
