Description
No. 123 is a detached house located on the north side of Boughton, dating from around 1840, although it likely has an earlier core in the rear wing. The house is constructed of Flemish bond red brick, with a rendered basement, and features parallel grey slate roofs on both the front and rear ranges. It has a basement and two storeys, with a total of five windows.
The basement includes two blocked sash openings on the left and a broad 20th-century metal window on the right. The ground floor has a sill band and five recessed 12-pane sash windows, with the glass in the central window painted out. There is a first-floor band and another sill band, with five recessed 9-pane sash windows, one of which also has painted-out glass. Each floor features an entablature above the central window opening, while the other windows have simple wedge lintels. The house has broad boxed eaves beneath a hipped roof, with the ridge running parallel to the front.
The entrance is located at the left end of the rear range, accessed by six stone steps leading to a door with six fielded panels and a large radial-bar fanlight. This door is set within an Ionic porch that has a column and pilaster on each side, topped with a full entablature and a flat canopy. The ground floor has a recessed 12-pane sash window, while the first floor features a 6-pane sash and a 9-pane sash. Additionally, there is a mid-19th-century broken-pediment gable added to the structure. The interior was not inspected, and the building was vacant at the time of the survey in July 1992.
