Description

Numbers 119 and 121 are a pair of early 19th-century town houses, later converted into flats. They are situated in Boughton, Chester. Constructed of Flemish bond brown brick with a grey slate roof, the houses are two storeys high and feature four windows. A mid-19th century verandah and balcony are present, the verandah supported by eleven latticed timber posts, a timber balcony, and a 20th-century metal railing. The windows are fully-glazed French windows; the ground floor windows have three panes while the first-floor windows have four shorter panes, all set within gauged brick flat arches. The building has broad boxed eaves and verges, a large central chimney, and a smaller chimney on a stone corbel at first-floor level on the right end, both positioned before the ridge. A small, unobtrusive extension is visible on the right end. The rear of the building has been altered. The interior has not been inspected. A garden wall, probably originally constructed of coursed red sandstone but with a central portion rebuilt in brick, runs along the front of the property. Sandstone returns link the wall to the house and outer portions of the front wall. The rebuilt section of the wall retains its original stone coping.
