Description

Nos 22 and 23 are a pair of estate cottages built in 1860, marked with a "B" and a crown, associated with the Duke of Bedford estate. The cottages feature dressed rubble walls and a chamfered stone plinth. There is a plat band adorned with dogtooth brickwork below the slate roof, which has gable ends and two small gables on the front elevation. A brick stack is located at the center ridge. The buildings are two storeys high and have four windows; the ground floor has three-light cast-iron casements with a lozenge pattern, while the first floor has two-light casements of the same style. Each window has returned labels above and stone cills. The front doors, located at the left and right ends of the front elevation, each have six recessed panels from the 19th century. They are sheltered by wooden porches with two forward posts and a triangular head, topped with a spear finial. The front garden features a sleeper wall with iron railings above, along with intact square stone gate piers that have cushion capital heads.
