Description
Nos. 53 to 55 are estate cottages built in 1849, as indicated by a plaque featuring the Duke of Bedford's crest. They are constructed of red brick and have half-hipped clay tile roofs. The cottages form a row with their gable ends facing the road, and there is a gable that projects from the center of both the front and rear elevations. They are one storey high with attics.
On the front (north) elevation, the central gable is flanked by smaller gables that break through the eaves. Each floor features a series of 2-light casement windows, arranged in a 1:1:1 pattern, with most being cast iron lattice windows. Nos. 53 and 55 have additional single-light windows. No. 54 includes a brick porch to the right of the projecting gable, which has a three-centred arch and a plank door. No. 55 has a 20th-century door on the road gable end, topped with a tiled gabled hood supported by decorative curved brackets. The eaves cornices feature brick cogging, and most of the gable hips are adorned with timber finials. There are three multiple ridge stacks made of red brick.
