Description

Katherine's Cross in Ampthill Park is a tall stone cross designed in the Gothic style. It was erected in 1773 by James Essex for John, the Second Earl of Upper Ossory, to mark the site of Ampthill Castle. The cross features a shield of England impaling Aragon and includes an inscription by Horace Walpole, which commemorates "The mournful refuge of an injured queen."
