Description

The building is a detached kitchen or bakehouse, likely from the 18th century, with an extension added in 1870. It is constructed from coursed stone rubble and features roofs made of corrugated asbestos and slate with gabled ends. A gable end stack is truncated below the ridge.

The layout consists of a one-room plan for the bakehouse or kitchen, which includes a large gable-end fireplace and an unheated room in an integral outshut at the rear. In 1870, a traphouse and an integral stable were added to the left end of the building.

The exterior is one storey with a loft. The south front has a three-light casement window from the early 19th century with glazing bars, and a plank door on the right featuring wrought-iron strap hinges. To the left, the 1870 traphouse has a wide segmental arch carriageway with double doors, a 19th-century two-light loft window above with glazing bars, and a lower stable section with a small blocked window and a doorway with sliding doors. At the rear, the roof extends down to lower eaves over the integral outshut.

Inside, the bakehouse or kitchen has a chamfered cross-beam with run-out stops, renewed joists, a large fireplace with a chamfered cambered timber bressumer, and later brick ovens. A staircase rises directly from the kitchen to the loft above, which features an exposed three-bay roof with two collar trusses. The collars are halved and lapped to the principals, which have mortices for tenoned purlins; however, the purlins and common rafters are missing. The floor of the traphouse has been partly removed. In the west gable of the stables, there is a stone tablet inscribed with "R.S. 1870."
