Description
Darby House is a detached house dating from the late 18th century, located on the east side of Darby Lane in Burton Bradstock. The building features rubble stone walls and a plain tile roof with stone gable copings. There are 20th-century brick stacks at each gable. The house is two storeys tall and has three sash windows with glazing bars and wooden cills. The windows have 20th-century rendered surrounds. The front door, located at the centre, is panelled with two top lights and has its original wooden architrave. A wooden canopy with a dentil cornice is supported by wooden brackets. At the rear, there are two short wings made of rubble stone with slate roofs and segmental-headed window openings, along with brick stacks at each rear gable. Surrounding the house are garden walls to the north and west, which date from the early 19th century. These walls are made of coursed rubble stone with stone copings, ramping to full height at the left and right ends, where they are also rubble-stone coped. The garden features square stone gate-piers that incorporate re-used apex blocks and reset ball-terminals.
