Description
The Rookery is a detached house set in its own grounds, with origins dating from the mid-17th century and early 20th-century additions at both ends and the rear. The building features rubble-stone walls topped with a stone parapet and gable copings. There are two rubble-stone buttresses with ashlar set-offs. The roof is covered with slate and includes four rendered stacks at the left-hand gable, two on the ridge, and another at the right-hand gable.
The house is two storeys high and has five windows, primarily consisting of three-light ovolo stone mullions with separate labels. The windows are fitted with metal casements that have single lights. The left-hand (north) end bay is an early 20th-century gabled addition designed in the original style, featuring five-light mullions on both the ground and first floors.
The front doorway is approximately at the center of the building, framed by stone jambs and a depressed arch set in a square head, with a separate label above. The door is made of planks, equipped with strap hinges and two glass lights, dating from the 19th century.
At the rear, there is a range built at right angles in the 20th century, which has a valley roof and similar window styles. A doorway leads into an adjoining porch, featuring a pointed segmental head, a straight chamfer, and large impost-blocks, with a modern two-leaf door. Above this doorway is a white stone tablet with an illegible inscription.
