Description

Quarr Farm House is a detached farmhouse with origins in the 17th century, which was extended to the west in the 18th century. The earlier section of the house appears to have originally extended further east. It features rubble stone walls, stone slate roofs, and brick stacks, and is two storeys high. In the earlier section, the original doorway has been blocked, and a 20th-century metal window has been inserted. On the first floor, there is a 5-light stone mullioned window, with the centre light blocked, and to the west of this is a similar 2-light window. The 18th-century section to the west is taller and has a gabled porch with a slate roof and a canted stone lintel. Both the ground and first floors of this section have two casement windows with glazing bars, with the ground floor windows featuring projecting stone lintels. At the east end of the 17th-century section, there are two projecting piers, which may have served as gatepiers to a former courtyard. The main ground floor room in the 18th-century section has a classical styled stone fireplace surround, dated 1651, which has been moved from the 17th-century section. Another ground floor room contains a large open fireplace with a timber lintel and a bread oven.
