Description

Higher Ansty House is a detached house, originally a farmhouse, dating to the early 18th century, although the service range may be slightly older. It is constructed of brick walls, plastered at the front, with a tiled roof and brick end stacks that project from the gable walls. The main block follows a double-pile plan with parallel roofs. A set-back service range is located at the left end and projects to the rear.

The main house is two storeys high with attics. A 20th-century porch is situated in the angle between the main block and service range, having plastered walls up to the first floor and weatherboarded walls above. It features a 20th-century panelled door set under a moulded hood supported by brackets. The front of the main block has two sash windows with glazing bars on both the ground and first floors. Two segmental-roofed dormers with casements and glazing bars light the attic. The front wall of the service range incorporates casement windows with lead lights on each floor. A 20th-century single-storey extension with a hipped roof extends from the right end of the main range. The rear wall of the main block features several casement windows with lead lights.

Inside, there is an 18th-century closed stone staircase with turned balusters and a moulded handrail. Several 18th-century fireplace surrounds and raised panel doors are also present. A single-storeyed outbuilding of brick with a tiled roof extends to the rear, and a 20th-century porch has been added.
