Description

The Dr. Charles Sloper monument and railings are located in the churchyard immediately east of the chancel of the Church of St. Mary. This table-tomb, dating from 1727, is made of stone and is surrounded by wrought iron railings. The tomb features panelled sides and heavy round moulded edges. The railings are designed with fluted columnar corner posts, scroll-work, and urn finials. Dr. Sloper was responsible for financing the 18th-century rebuilding of the church.
