Description
The Sloper memorial is a chest tomb located about 7 metres west of the Swinerton memorials in the churchyard of the Church of St. Mary. It dates from the mid to late 18th century and is made of limestone. The tomb features a flat top with a shallow moulded plinth and capping, resting on a large stone base that is covered with a layer of concrete. The corners are fluted, and the end panels display an urn on the west side and two cherub heads under a canopy with two skulls below on the east side. The north panel shows the remains of an elaborately carved inscription cartouche, while the south side has a rectangular inscription panel with a carved surround and moulded side strips. The inscription on the south side is partially legible. The concrete and stone base is showing signs of deterioration.
